Texas A&M University is pleased to host the third annual HIPs in the States National Conference, an informal community of college and university educators and practitioners working to improve the definitions, implementation, tracking, equity, and assessment of high-impact educational practices at public institutions. 

The conference will be held at the Texas A&M Hotel & Conference Center and will begin at 5 pm on Tuesday, February 18 with a welcome reception and dinner. Panels and presentations begin at 8:00am on Wednesday, February 19 and conclude at Noon on Friday, February 21, 2020.


This year’s keynotes are George Sanchez from the University of Southern CaliforniaLaVar Charleston from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Ruth Simmons from Prairie View A&M University. Each will highlight the work of high impact practices with first generation college students.

A welcome reception and dinner are scheduled for 5 pm on Tuesday, February 18.  The 2020 conference begins at 8 am on Wednesday, February 19 and concludes at noon CST on Friday, February 21

All practitioners, professionals, educators, and researchers from academic and student affairs are welcome. Because work on HIPs is rarely done in isolation, we encourage institutions to support and send a team of individuals to the HIPs in the States Conference as presenters or as attendees. To facilitate, teams comprised of three members will be offered a reduced conference registration. A discount rate is also available to attendees from community colleges. Registration rates are listed below and is now open.

Conference rates are:
 $390 for single registration,
$340 for single registration (community college attendee discount)
and $900 for a team of 3 (any type of registration)

Flights directly into College Station (CLL) are available through Dallas on American Airlines and through Houston on United Airlines. Alternatively, Texas A&M University is located 90 minutes from Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and 120 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

TAMU Hotel and Conference Center
Conference rates of $139 per night and a room block has been reserved at the Doug Pitcock '49 Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly and asking for the "HIPS in the States" conference rate, if still available.
